“I don’t have time to step away from my desk for lunch.”
It’s the argument and simpering whimper of entrepreneurs everywhere. And of course, it’s total BS.
Your PERCEPTION is that you “don’t have time”, but actually, you’re just not managing your time correctly. So instead, you either hoard snacks in your desk drawer, claiming they’re for those “emergency pick-me-ups”, or you forego eating altogether, in favour of rapid fire to-and-fros to the frothy coffee machine for repeat caffeine hits and then save all your hangriness for the family later. Then you use your business as great ammo to fire back at your family when they point out to you what a horrid little gremlin you’re being; you become a martyr and they start remembering how much more they liked you when you were employed, albeit unfulfilled and downtrodden. See how I can help you, contact me today or book an appointment here.
And all this could have been saved if you’d not sent yourself on some whacky caffeine/blood sugar rollercoaster and had instead gifted yourself with something nutritious, filling and more importantly, some downtime away from your desk.
Change the narrative
You know, just because everyone else seems to glamorise being busy and slogging it out with their laptops til the wee hours, doesn’t mean you have to follow that pattern. Sure, I know plenty of successful people who have cut down on sleep hours, cut down on family time, slogged their guts out to get where they are. But a lot of them have become very one dimensional; the business has become their only focus and they’re on a one way ticket to ill-health, which means they then won’t be doing the only thing they love – BUSINESS.
I also know so many more people who decided they were going to love the process of “making it”. Admit it. If everything were a bed of roses, you wouldn’t be interested in achieving things and working hard.
If it were easy, there’d be no reward, there’d be no bragging rights. That’s one of the things you love about running your own show. With that in mind, it’s not necessarily the “end product” that you’re really working for. It’s the continual quest to do better.
So.
- You want to enjoy the process
- You don’t want to be one of those annoying angry entrepreneurs who blames their choice of starting a business, for everything
- You want to stick around to finish what you started and create something cool, not die young and everyone say “I always told them they worked too hard”.
One easy step that will improve your mood, your health, your focus and even your relationships with your family? Take a fucking lunch break.
If you think it’s more than just a lunch break that needs fixing, check out my free Super Human scorecard to get working on yourself right away – you need it.
