Back in the day, it was only elite sportspeople that had a coach – and that was basically a guy with a stopwatch who shouted “FASTER, BETTER, STRONGER, MORE!” at you.
Nowadays, coaching is a whole different beast and it’s something that is both more useful and more accessible for most of us. But who needs a coach? And why?
“I don’t need a coach”.
That’s the stance of most people – it was indeed my own stance for a good number of years! When I first launched my clinic in 2019, I was a bit stuck for a name and a logo. I stumbled across someone who I thought could help me with it. But what ACTUALLY happened, was I realised the name and the logo were just the tip of the iceberg; I knew even less than I thought about business and I had a lot of work to do to get where I wanted to. I also suddenly realised there was a lot more I wanted to do, and a lot more I COULD do under the mentorship and guidance of somebody who was an expert in their field. That person has now become a great friend and my GB kit sponsor, Richard Crawford-Small at the Aesthetic Entrepreneurs and the community he has built is somewhere I check into every day. I’ve made some awesome friends from it and it has opened my eyes to see people in the world who look at it the same way I do.
I had a similar epiphany recently. Some of you will know I spent the last ten years telling everyone how I got into my GB kit without a coach – clever me! The I had an absolute shocker of a race and suddenly realised I’d outgrown my own coaching…enter Alan from Tri Training Harder. We’ve been working together for only a couple of months and yet already, training has morphed into an exciting and successful challenge again. I’m learning again. And the results are speaking for themselves.
So for me, coaching was never something I wanted, it was never something I was looking for, it was just something I suddenly realised I needed and have been throwing myself into head first ever since.
My clients often have the same journey. They come to me with the idea that perhaps I can help them with an exercise schedule or an eating plan. What actually happens is we realise what’s really holding them back – and it usually isn’t as black and white as needing some calorie control. Sometimes people come to me with the attitude they need a “coaching bootcamp” for six weeks. Often they complete that and realise they’re only just at the beginning and what they really need from guidance and mentoring is far more than that.
And that’s what I’m here for. I’m here to empower you to become the leader the world needs you to be. I’m here to help you realise your real potential. You don’t know what that is yet. And you also don’t know what’s holding you back yet. You might not even realise you need a coach…yet. But when you do, you know where I am…
